An orientation meeting was organized by the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering for first-year students joining our department for the 2026–2027 academic year. Held with the participation of faculty members and students, the event provided comprehensive insights to support new students in adapting to university and departmental life.
During the session, Vice Department Chair Assoc. Prof. Meryem Polat delivered a presentation highlighting the strategic significance of the discipline across modern industry and science. Touching upon our educational infrastructure, material characterization and manufacturing laboratories, R&D application facilities, and technical capabilities, Assoc. Prof. Polat also shared department ranking trends, alumni employment areas, and key web resources for essential guidelines, forms, and communication channels.
Department Chair Prof. Dr. Bülent Bostan then addressed the students, offering practical advice on adapting to university dynamics, navigating potential challenges, balancing academic and personal freedom with responsibility, and leveraging the campus’s social and technical resources.
The program further underlined the impact of international experience on an engineering career, covering opportunities for overseas internships, student exchanges (such as Erasmus+), and research programs available throughout their studies.
The conference hall session concluded with a Q&A segment where students directed questions to the executive board of our student society, METAT. Following the presentation, faculty members and students gathered for an informal reception in the department foyer.
We wish all our students a productive, successful, and inspiring 2026–2027 academic year.
